Fiber cement holds up better against the flexing itself, since it's dimensionally more stable, but it isn't immune. Wood siding and trim see the same cycle differently — the wood moves less than people assume, but the paint film on top doesn't tolerate the swings well, so it cracks and peels earlier, especially on sun-exposed elevations.
